You are one morose motherfucker. Everytime something goes the way you want it to in life, as soon as it is at its peak, it always comes crashing down to hit you in the face. That factors in with your almost always unreachable goals, and that you always manage to say the wrong things at the wrong time. If you just get a haircut and quit trying to make the impossible happen, you're going to be much better off. |
i am holden, from chasing amy. which is funny, cuz he's my favorite character out of any of kevin smith's movies. =) (ie. clerks, mallrats, chasing amy, dogma, jay and silent bob strike back).
sorry, i know it's been a LONG time since i posted. don't worry, more ish comin soon. along with a real design. i promise :p

"Why I Will Not Fight in America's 'War Against Terrorism'" aka "Why you will not see me waving an American Flag." Now I realize that that's a pretty provocative title. Don't get me wrong, I love my country. But that doesn't mean that I blindly accept it as perfect. There are so many things that are wrong, and I do love this country enough to want to do something to make it better. I saw this big SUV the other day, it had one of those ubiquitous (sp?) flags flying from its rear window, and I'm not talking about the LA Lakers flag either. On the rear window, written with that same soap that is used to write dial-in times at the races, or a used car price, it said "America...love it or LEAVE IT!!" Now is it just me or is that only slightly xenophobic?? Seeing that scared the sh!t out of me. I won't lie...it also pissed me off. This is why you will not see me waving an American flag. It's not that I don't love my country. I just hate what the flag has come to stand for in recent days. When I see people waving the flag, I think of the xenophobia that I have experienced recently, I think of people hungry for revenge, and people who are ignorant about the world. Now, I realize that not everybody, in fact MOST of the people who are waving flags have the best of intentions, and are probably not xenophobic or ignorant. But this is a case where sadly, a small minority has ruined something for the majority. (at least in my eyes.) Columnist/Author Barbara Kingslover recently wrote, "Patriotism seems to be falling to whoever claims it loudest, and we're left struggling to find a definition in a clamor of reaction. This is what I'm hearing: Patriotism opposes the lone representative of democracy who was
brave enough to vote her conscience instead of following an angry mob (several others have confessed they wanted to vote the same way, but chickened out). Patriotism threatens free speech with death. It is infuriated by thoughtful hesitation, constructive criticism of our leaders and pleas for peace. It despises people of foreign birth who've spent years learning our culture and contributing their talents to our economy. It has specifically blamed homosexuals, feminists and the American Civil Liberties Union. In other words, the American flag stands for intimidation, censorship, violence, bigotry, sexism, homophobia, and shoving the Constitution through a paper shredder?" I don't think I could articulate my thoughts any clearer than she did when she wrote that. If you'd like to read the rest of her commentary (which IMHO is awesome...) just email me .
But anyway, getting back to my reasons for not fighting America's racist war against terrorism. When I look at our country's response to the horrendous 9/11 tragedy, I see only a "knee-jerk" reaction. It seems like too much of what we are doing is done out of anger, and seeking revenge. I would agree, the people who were responsible for this act MUST be brought to justice. But does that mean we have to "smoke them out of their holes" as our fearless leader George Dubya Bush so eloquently put it? Does it mean we have to "bomb the sh!t out of them?" as I have heard in so many of my classes. For that matter, who are "they" anyway? Droppin bombs is just going to result in countless more innocent lives lost. Do we really want to punish the people of Afghanistan, who for the most part are already victims of a brutally unfair government? Are they the people who are to blame for the so-called "Attack on America?" Would this really make us feel better? And what about the countless lives of American soldiers that would be lost too? It worries me that it probably would appease a lot of Americans who don't really know what's going on here.
We also can't forget that Osama Bin Laden, this evil evil man, was trained by the CIA. Which brings me to my final point. Rather than following our initial reaction and beatin the sh!t out of some arabs, why don't we think about what would cause anybody to hate us so much. I would argue that the United States needs to review the motives behind this attack. Right after the attack happened, the media kept saying that this type of attack required "countless hours of planning and resources." Why would anybody take so much time and dedicate their lives to "teaching the US a lesson?" To me, this screams out for a review of the United States' foreign policy. We have to realize that we are THE superpower in the world, and as such, we have a certain responsibility to the rest of the world. This responsibility doesn't include "spreading democracy," but it does mean that we should be advocates for justice and peace rather than simply tryin to screw everybody over and make some $$.
To close, I'd like to drop a paraphrased quote. I don't want to leave this quote because it makes me look educated or well read. I want to drop this quote simply because I think Ghandi said it much better and much more simply than I ever could. "There are many causes for which I am willing to die. But there is *NO* cause for which I am willing to kill." peaCe. really.
if you have questions/comments PLEASE email me. I'd love to hear any response positive or negative.
ps. sorry i haven't updated for awhile. I've been in shock over the recent events, and trying to organize my thoughts. They're still not organized very well, but I'm getting closer.

so like..i've noticed that I'm getting a lot more hits to this page recently. And a lot of them are coming from ISPs in areas where i don't even know anyone. Some of them are even repeat visits. So my question is...who are all these new people who are reading the most intimate details of my life? (okay maybe they're not so intimate...cuz if they were, then i wouldn't be posting them up here...) but anyway you get my point. if for some reason you feel the urge to read this site regularly...plz let me know who u are :p ( email me or hit me up on AIM (i'm nihonpryd).

i think i'll entitle this entry "the friend zone." the "friend zone" is an area that i keep finding myself in. you all know what i'm talking about. one day you're talking to someone...maybe you sense some mutual interest. however somehow too much time passes...both parties get comfortable....and *baM* all of the sudden she can't see you as anything but a friend. *baM* all chances of a relationship are gone with the wind. out like shout. you get the point.
anyway, somehow i always seem to end up in this zone. i don't know why this happens. is it cuz i'm too nice and girls just like to go out with a**holes? or maybe i'm just a really good friend...too good of a friend to risk getting into a relationship with. anyway i guess this isn't something that i should complain about...after all nice guys finish first right? or was it last...hmm oh well
okay enough being mopey smurf for now :p.
in other news, school is good..my classes should be cake this semester, and it looks like i might be doing some really interesting research. (well interesting to me at least ;P)
my car needs to be washed :(.
hmm haven't done a list for awhile.
so here's a list of my favorite r&b songs for today:
1) Maxwell - Lifetime (thanX guad...this song is da SheeeeeeeeZ)
2) Pennywise - f*ck authority (ok...this isn't r&b...but it's my list dammit :p)
3) swv-right here(human nature remix) DAMN this is a CLASSIC.
4) les nubians - princesses nubians (i have no idea what they're saying...but this song is SEXXAY)
5) hi-5, i can't wait another minute (hey..it's #5...gotta put hi-5 in :p besides this is a damn classic.)
ok thassit for now....pS...gotta send a shout to my homegirl guaddddddddddddddddddd a lupe...guad guad a lupe........for cheerin me up tonight. thanx guad...ur da sheeez...u know i love ya :)

well...school is starting today :(. my first class begins in about 30 minutes. i got parking as soon as i drove into the lot, and got to CSUN about an hour early. that's amaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing. :p
i don't know if i like being back here....it's good to be back in school. but it's also really hot here. i think i'd rather be wasting away at work. or playing counterstrike. but then again, it's always good to learn, and i genuinely enjoy what i am studying, so that's a definite plus for being back at school.
in other news...those of you who are suffering music withdrawal in this post-napster world can rejoice. uGo has listed and reviewed a bunch of napster alternatives. check it out =). ok time to go to class. peaCe.
ps. did i mention that some co-workers and I made 10 gallons of chili this weekend for a chilicookoff? it was yummy.

instead of rambling on and on about how awesome my trip was or wasn't...(which i've done for about 5 days straight to anybody who will listen)....i'm just going to post this link.
remember that "stick figure theater" thing? the shockwave movie with the bad-ass fighting stick figures? well the same guy (i think) has made somewhat of a sequel..cept this time it's a game. =) check this sh*t out.
okay back to work now. peace.

one more thing. check this ish out. pretty freakin funny, if you ask me. well disturbing but funny. thanks ernie :p
so i'm here. and as you can see..i've been at my dorm for just over 24 hours, and i've already found a computer /w internet connection :p.
I'm actually in a PC-bahng (for all you non-korean speaking ppl..that's basically a computer lab where you can go and play LAN games and stuff like that...they also have internet access.
manoa is nice. the weather is hot and humid....but it's bearable. the people on my trip seem aight...it's just weird cuz i don't really know any of them yet, so it's not too much fun kickin it with them. some people are really outgoing and all cheerful, but that tends to just annoy me :p besides that..i can't really complain i guess. it still feels like it's going to be a LONG 6 weeks :(.
if you get really bored, check out the "almost live" webcame from UH's library. if you look long and close enough, you might just see me walk by! :p~ i'll try to find out the exact location of this camera so i can make funny faces at it every once in awhile. i think it's near where our classes are..so i should pass by at least daily.
anyhow..since i'm gettin charged $5 an hour..i think i better go play some counter-strike! :p~

hmmm. it's been awhile. haven't done much. just been enjoying summer break and what not. well okay that's a lie. i haven't been enjoying summer break. i've been workin my butt off....tryin to pay for a bunch of ish. HOWEVER, this weekend, my frenz and i threw a pretty phat bbq/bonfire =). it was a celebration of the beginning of summer combined with me saying goodbye to most of my LA frenz....(a few were missin...dennis..sue...jen...susan....louie..hope......we missed u guys :( and anyone else i was lame enough to forget...we missed you too :( ). but anyway..it was fun..had about 20 ppl or so come out and kick it. (if u didn't know..i'm goin to hawaii for 6 weeks this saturday =) ).
i also saw "the fast and the furious" last night.
okay. so i take issue with this movie for a couple reasons.
1) what's up with the stereotyping of asians in this movie? (not to mention african americans and latino's too...) For a movie that focuses on a scene that was primarily started and continues to be basically run by asian americans, there was a disturbing lack of them in this movie. the only Asian American actor who got any real screentime in this movie was rick yune, who played the stereotypical vietnamese (nevermind that he's korean american) gangster.....ruthless, personality-less, and worst of all..SHALLOW. The only time we get any real insight into his background is when the cops bust down the door in his suburban (probably hacienda heights or west covina or somethin) home..and put him in cuffs as he eats dinner with his distinctly oriental (yes...oriental..not asian...) family. and what's up with that race in the beginning...where they cut to a shot of each of the four racers....an italian(i think) guy...a white guy...a black guy....and an asian guy. now I want to know....why the F*ck was the asian guy the one playing video games in his car???????? seriously. that pissed me off. This movie is a prime example of hollywood thinking that it can walk all over the asian american community....come on now...we were severely misrepresented in a movie that was supposed to portray a culture that WE STARTED.
i'll write #2 later.....that's a whole nother story.
in fact...i'm tired of writing, so i'm gonna end this here. peace. :p
ps. you notice how there's not ONE LINK in this entire WEB-log? i'm losing my touch.

this friday is national justice for janitors fast day. i think that rather than fasting, i'm going to wear my j4j t-shirt =)..wOohOo. really though, i think that this is an important struggle, and while it is an issue that predominantly affects latinos, it is important for asian americans and other minority groups to support and validate their struggle. i once heard that "oppression is oppresion, is oppression." meaning, if you are going to join the fight against oppression in one form...you must be down to fight against oppression in all forms. you can't only fight against the oppression of Asian Americans, or lgbt's (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender), or African Americans, or janitors. you must be down for, and supportive of the struggle to fight against ALL of these forms. United We Stand, divided we fall. =) If any of these struggles are going to succeed, they must have to support of all the other struggles.
